Saxophone
History
The saxophone did not evolve like other instruments; it was created and is much younger than most other instruments, a little more than 150 years old. Adolphe Sax in Paris, a musician and instrument maker, wanted to create an instrument that balanced the color and tonality of string, brass and woodwind instruments into one. He combined the body of a brass instrument, the mouthpiece of a woodwind instrument, the clarinet, and oboe-like fingerings.. It is popular for its extreme dynamic range and the ability to project a personal and sentimental tone quality. Although used in orchestras and bands, it is also accepted as a jazz instrument.
When purchasing one, look mostly for good quality workmanship with a reasonably good-quality metal.
